Inside Nexus Group's Premium Black-Themed Onboarding Kit-Case Study

When an Onboarding Kit Becomes an Extension of the Brand

When Nexus Group approached us to create onboarding kits for their new employees, the brief was clear: premium, functional, fully branded, and completely black.

At first glance, that sounds simple.

But creating a cohesive all-black onboarding kit with multiple branded products, strict international brand guidelines, and flawless execution across different printing methods is anything but simple.

This is the story of how we curated, customised, and delivered a premium employee welcome kit that reflected the Nexus Group brand at every touchpoint.

The Brief: Premium, Functional and Consistent

As an international organisation, Nexus Group had a strong visual identity and clearly defined branding standards. The objective wasn't just to create another employee welcome kit.

The goal was to create an onboarding experience that would instantly make a new team member feel like they were becoming part of a premium global brand.

The requirements were:

  • Every product had to fit a sleek black aesthetic
  • All products needed to be branded
  • The products had to be useful in everyday work life
  • Branding needed to be subtle, premium and consistent
  • The final presentation had to look sophisticated from the moment the box was opened

Building the Perfect Black-Themed Onboarding Kit

Rather than selecting products individually, we approached the project as a complete ecosystem. Every item had to complement the others visually while also serving a practical purpose.

The final onboarding kit included:

  • A5 Premium Notebook
  • Ball Pen
  • SS Vacuum Flask with Straw (500ml)
  • Ceramic Mug
  • Folding Laptop Stand with 8-Angle Adjustment
  • 3-in-1 Folding Wireless Charger
  • Black Mouse Pad
  • Stationery Cube
  • Wooden Easel Stand with Customised Calendar Sheets
  • Customised Notecard
  • Premium Black Gift Box with Customised Sleeve

The result was a desk-ready onboarding experience that employees could start using from Day One. From productivity tools to workspace essentials, every product earned its place inside the box.

The Challenge Nobody Sees: Branding Across Multiple Products

One of the biggest misconceptions about corporate gifting is that branding simply means adding a logo. In reality, branding a single gift hamper often involves multiple production processes, vendors, approvals, and quality checks.

For the Nexus Group onboarding kits, almost every product required a different branding technique. Some products used:

  • UV Printing
  • Screen Printing
  • Laser Engraving

Each process has its own setup, limitations, timelines, and quality standards.

A logo that looks perfect on a notebook may need completely different treatment on a wireless charger, metal flask, ceramic mug, or laptop stand.

That meant coordinating multiple production partners, reviewing samples, ensuring colour consistency, checking logo proportions, and making sure the final result matched Nexus Group's branding guidelines.

Every product took a different route before finally making its way into the finished onboarding box.

A Quality Decision That Increased Our Costs

One particular challenge came during the branding of the 3-in-1 Folding Wireless Chargers. These were among the premium products in the kit and naturally one of the most visible.

During production, we noticed quality issues in the branding output. Technically, the chargers were usable. Most people may not even have noticed the difference.

But we did. And once we saw it, we knew they couldn't go into the final kits. Instead of compromising, we rejected the entire batch and sourced fresh units to redo the branding.

Was it expensive? Yes.

Was it necessary? Absolutely.

Because when a company trusts us with their employee onboarding experience, we believe the standard inside the box should match the standard promised outside it.

Those are the decisions that never appear in the final photographs but make all the difference in the finished result.

Why the All-Black Theme Worked So Well

The beauty of this project wasn't just in the products. It was in the consistency.

The black notebook complemented the black mug. The black flask paired seamlessly with the black laptop stand. The black stationery cube, wireless charger, mouse pad and packaging tied everything together. Even the premium black gift box and customised sleeve became part of the overall experience rather than merely packaging.

The result was a clean, sophisticated and professional look! Instead of feeling like a collection of branded merchandise, the onboarding kit felt like a carefully designed workspace experience.

Creating a Strong First Impression for New Employees

The first few days at a company shape how employees perceive an organisation. A thoughtfully curated onboarding kit sends a powerful message:

"We're excited to have you here, and we've invested in creating a great experience for you."

For Nexus Group, the onboarding kits helped reinforce professionalism, attention to detail and brand consistency from the very beginning. And for new employees, it transformed a routine welcome gift into something far more memorable.

The Final Outcome

This project was a reminder that great corporate gifting isn't about adding more products. It's about making intentional choices.

The finished onboarding kits were sleek, practical, premium and unmistakably Nexus Group. Exactly as they were meant to be.
